We couldn’t pick a better time to visit “Bright” in Hackney than the bank holiday weekend when the sun didn’t find it necessary to stop shining. The team from the wine shop P Franco opened Bright at the beginning of May and it’s an all round delightful experience.
The weather suitably complemented their branding of bright orange cards and yellow menus. The attitude seems to be local/ design-y with their furniture and crockery designed and produced by local makers. Honest materials like timber, cork, terracotta, clay, planting and some pops of colour on the furniture meet great graphic design on their P X Franco posters and the atmosphere is fun and fresh.
The food is also sourced either locally or from the UK. We had delicious asparagus with some homemade pesto and herbs, really tender and quite rich pork chop in butter and lemon sauce with capers, parsnip salad with some unknown delicious dressing and capers, and sea food pasta. However the deserts really stole the show, with elderflower icecream and honeycomb pieces, and strawberries and cream with shortbread top (we don’t quite know what magic they did there but it was one of the best things I’ve tasted). The service didn’t disappoint either – everyone was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Ethical food and great local design and art. What more can you want.
